How to add a floating side badge to your website...
I’m sure you’ve seen them around: an image on the side of the page that stays in place even as you scroll down. It acts as a callout - linked to another page or to another website altogether - and can be an interesting marketing feature for your business. We’re using one right here on our blog, linking a floating banner to YWD’s main website so people can get their free...

Identifying your value
The notion of a unique value proposition is not a new one. Every business has one, people do too. Everybody and every thing is particularly good at something. Yes, unfortunately this means that even terrible products are good at something (and no, it’s not ‘being terrible’).
This brings us to you. No, I’m not suggesting you’re terrible, far from it, you’re...

Don?t Create a New Business, Just Create New...
Let me get this right out. I hated sociology in university. I thought it was a load of crap. It was a pseudo science wrapped up in words like, gemeinschaft and gesellschaft and ethnocentrism. Blah. I always got into trouble because I would explain human interactions using common English words, and I would get docked marks for not using the sociology terms.
What I didn’t realize at the time...

Our Internet is not their Internet
The Internet we are celebrating and using today is the slimest approximation of what the Internet will eventually evolve to, assuming there is some kind of end point. Kind of like the reverse of the big bang theory. We have a better idea of where the Universe is heading than how it all began and while we know how the Internet started we have no idea where it’s going.
I have come to the...

This past week: At YWD we completed a lot of upgrades and introduce a few new features - all to help our clients succeed online. As you may know we are constantly evaluating the new technologies and trends out there so we can integrate them into your YWD website. One example is Mobile Website, not only does it come (out the box) with every YWD website, but I believe it is the best mobile website...

Choosing a preferred image for your blog?s...
When people ‘like’ your post, Facebook will by default pick any image from the page and place it on the person’s wall. It can be an advertiser’s logo, some undesired interface element, etc. But we wanted to give our clients more control; now they have it.
You now have the ability to select exactly which image you’d like Facebook to use when you create or edit a blog...

Inserting your own CSS into your website
You don’t need to know anything about CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) in order to design a great website using the YWD platform. All the formatting is generated by the system for you, using the choices you make in YWD Designer. However, there are some instances where you may want to extend and even override YWD’s settings, and if you know your CSS that could be handy.
YWD Designer does...

Auto-resizing images to fit your page layout
In a content-managed system like Your Web Department clients upload and insert images of various sizes on their own, and sometimes the images will simply not fit within the page layout.
